Bags, gloves, etc all there.
Hook up with some people and then, bag and chat.

And the bulk rubbish pickup is Nov 14.
You can get the City of Wanneroo official doc here: http://www.wanneroo.wa.gov.au/Residents/Waste_and_Recycling/Bulk_Verge_Collection

Cheers.

The Round Table grapevine is working great! The latest test was this:
We are hosting the Watoto Childrens’ Choir again this year, and had agreed to a generous offer to promote this in a glossy magazine for every household in the suburb. But when we returned from camp and two weeks away, we could see that the glossy had been delayed and with less than two weeks to go, the community would be unprepared for this gem of a family concert / community event.

So I sent an email to the Round Table, and within a day:
- Cheers sent the event around the e-list
- the state MP, Paul Miles, had the event posted on his website,
- the newspaper had been contacted
- Bill volunteered to deliver 50 posters to businesses to display in their premises
- the schools added it to their newsletters
- school staff are asking can they bring their grandparents
- the glossy may still get to the homes, albeit the day before the concert.

When it counts, I’ll go with the trusted relationships over formal systems every time.
So browse this site for something you're interested in... get out there and mingle... and work together.
And see you at Watoto!

This is a rare event - right here in Banksia Grove!
All the way from Uganda, the children from the Watoto orphanage will come to perform a traditional African and Gospel Family Concert at Neerabup Primary School.
6:30pm on Sunday 22 May, 2011

FREE ADMISSION
But please bring some $$ to make a donation or buy CD's etc.

Foundation Housing is going to develop that land that Brunswick Cct surrounds.
Which sounds sad at first - goodbye to all that open space.

But the vision they have for it actually sounds pretty darn good.
So if you're one of the people on Brunswick, or close to it, don't get worked up about it until you find out what's going on. Get Scott or Kathleen at Foundation Housing to explain the possibilities to you as soon as you can. At worst, it would be like a well-managed private tenancy (it's not Homeswest, nor subject to the same constraints as Homeswest.)

At best, Brunswick Cct could become the best address in BG! That will depend on how intentionally the existing neighbors make acquaintances, but I sure envy you the opportunity.

Habitat for Humanity are planning a build in Banksia Grove soon.
Where is it? Who should apply? What are the conditions? How can it benefit more than just one household? What is sweat equity?

Have a look here: www.habitat.org.au/wa

progress has been made;
  • The Aboriginal healing site has been saved
  • The road planned through the conservation wetland is now being diverted
  • Rural land between Coogee Rd and Neaves will now remain special rural
This has only happened because residents made a stand. We have sent a clear and strong message that we care about the place we live in and we will stand up for our rights.

We still have three objectives to achieve and they are;
  1. Stopping plans to establish the South Pinjar Industrial Estate (planned within the priority one public resource drinking area of the Gnangara Mound)
  2. No urbanization on medium to high risk acid sulphate soils
  3. Functional wildlife corridors be established between the lakes and what is now the pine plantations
Whats now?

Crew has been working solidly collecting signatures and informing the public on the hazard the proposed South Pinjar industrial estate will pose to Perth’s drinking water. This Thursday 9 September at 9.00am we will be presenting Ken Travis MLA with our latest petition of 5500 + signatures. Ken Travis will table this petition and talk in parliament for one hour discussing why this planned industrial estate should not proceed.
